For my birthday, my sister bought me a scratch-off poster called "100 Movies Bucket List". It's exactly what it sounds like: 100 scratch-off squares that reveal some tiny artwork beneath. Scratch them all to win a prize (prize = bragging rights).

My daughters liked the poster so much, that they decided to make their own - except with movies that they actually want to watch. The supplies list was pretty basic, and I happened to have everything on hand.
Art supplies!
- Cardboard (cereal box)
- Paper
- Colored penciles
- Silver pain
- Paintbrush
- Gluestick
- Dish Soap
- Packing Tape (not pictured)
Back of Poster
First, we cut out a couple pieces of cereal box. These help add some sturdiness to the poster. Cut them to whatever size you want your poster to be! Next, we glued a piece of printer paper on top of the cereal box. This provides a solid-color (white, in our case) background to draw/paint on top of.
Finding Nemo
Next, I had the girls draw squares on the poster. The squares are roughly 2"x2". After determining which movies they wanted to watch, I wrote the movie names above each box, and had the girls draw some art in each one. Then, cover each square of art with some clear packing tape. I have read that you could also color over it with white crayon, but I didn't try this out.
We didn't actually mask the squares (as seen above), but we should have. If you are doing this project, get some masking tape, and tape around each square before drawing & coloring the art. This will make the final project look MUCH neater.
Silver paint & dish soap
I followed a recipe that I found online: Mix 1 part silver paint & 1 part dish soap. Supposedly, this makes it so that the paint is easier to scratch off. What I found though was that it was VERY slow to dry, and ended up with a greasy consistency. This might be because I was using cheap paint? If I had to do this again, I would probably use 3 parts paint to 1 part dish soap.

After mixing the paint, the girls applied it with a paint brush. Like I said before, masking off the squares will make this MUCH easier, unless your kids have considerably more precision with a paint brush than mine do. You will probably have to paint multiple coats. Wait for each coat to dry, and then reapply. The goal is to completely hide the art.
When the final coat has dried, it is good to go! Now it's time for movie night with the kids, and some poster-scratchin' fun!
Total Time: ~ 1.5 hours (not counting paint drying time).
Total Cost: < $5
Total Difficulty: med-Low
